Obligations as Host and Co-Host

Hosts shall come from the relevant disciplines to support the fellows in all aspects of their interdisciplinary project. EuroTechPostdoc Fellows will have a personal supervisor at their host university as well as a personal supervisor at the co-host university. The supervision will take place both at formalized meetings and during day-to-day research collaborations and collegial interactions.

Host

As a supervisor of the fellow you should be a senior researcher employed at one of the host universities, and you have primary responsibility of the fellow’s stay and to integrate the fellow into the local environment. You will be responsible for providing guidance on scientific matters in their discipline, including fostering the fellow’s academic work to stimulate excellence in the research achievements. Naturally part of this will be advising on career perspectives.

Host supervisor / PI

  • Integration of fellow into host department
  • Supervising research project, publications and encourage fellow to partake in relevant courses and events.
  • Mentoring career development; incl. making and updating fellow’s career development plan twice a year.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the co-supervisor from the co-host university
  • Ensure that fellow has access to laboratories, meeting rooms, research infrastructure, materials etc.
  • Ensure coverage of all research costs incl. use of infrastructure and materials as well as all invoked training costs

Host university/department:

  • Employ fellow as a member of staff on a fixed-term contract
  • Ensure that the fellow has an appropriate workplace (desk, computer etc.) on the first day of work and throughout the employment.
  • Paying salary (also during secondment)
  • Provide guidance in finding housing
  • Assist in applying for work and residence permits
  • Introduction to host country

Private travel expenses, including moving from home country to host country, are to be held by the fellow.

Co-Host

As co-host you will be partly responsible for the supervision of the fellow. You will be a senior researcher employed at the co-host university. You should advise the fellow on scientific matters in his discipline and take over the responsibility of the fellow’s research stay  along with the integration at the co-host university.

Co-Host supervisor / PI

  • Supervising research project and publications
  • Collaborate and communicate with the main supervisor from the primary host university.
  • Mentor the fellow during research stays/secondments at co-host university
  • Ensure fellow access to laboratories, meeting rooms, research infrastructure, materials etc.
  • Ensure coverage of all research costs incl. use of infrastructure and materials as well as all invoked training costs

Co-Host university/department

  • Ensure that the fellow has an appropriate workplace (desk, computer etc.) on the first day of research stay and throughout the stay.
  • Ensure fellow access to laboratories, meeting rooms, research infrastructure, materials etc.
  • Provide guidance in finding housing
  • Assist in applying for work and residence permits
  • Introduction to co-host country (primarily for longer research stays – 3-6 months)
  • No salary obligations

Private travel expenses, including moving from home country to host country, are to be held by the fellow.

Career Development Plan

A career development plan will be put into place and constantly updated according to the fellow’s progress. Both, host and co-host  are to hold regular meetings with the fellow (at least quarterly) in person or within a teleconference. Further, both are encouraged to advise the fellows on their personal career development plan and provide relevant network contacts for additional collaborations, whenever relevant.

Reporting

Hosts and co-host will complete all reports that have to be provided to the project management office and the EC in a timely manner.
